This new approach to accessing mental health services for those 16 years or older is made up of a team of Call Handlers and Mental Health Practitioners who take calls and manage referrals from patients, service users, families, carer’s and professionals, aiming to ensure callers are connected to the right professional in a timely manner. The team may arrange for you to receive support over the phone or for a mental health practitioner to see you at home, at a GP practice or another mutually agreed place to allow further information about current mental health needs to be gathered. Information about other services that could assist will also be shared, if appropriate.

CANW

Child Action Northwest is a regional charity with a big heart, offering support to children, young people and communities. Founded 130 years ago, we support over 10,000 children, young people and families across the North and West of England every year; those facing poverty, violence, abuse, neglect, mental health issues and family breakdown. We believe that no child or family should face these issues alone.

From fostering to supporting emotional health, community support to building new skills and social networks, we work to ensure children, young people and families can access the range of services they need, enabling them to lead healthy and meaningful lives, succeed in school and work, maintain healthy relationships and enjoy life.

Our services providing Mental Health and Wellbeing Support in Blackburn with Darwen are as follow:

Our Young Carers project supports children and young people aged between 5 and 25 who are carrying the care burden at home. They may be looking after parents or siblings, helping them cope with illness, mental health issues, or even substance abuse problems. We are their advocate, their defender, their comfort. We are their voice when they need it.

Our Emotional Health and Wellbeing service offers a wide range of therapeutic support to children, young people and families facing issues that can change rapidly, usually impacting negatively on their overall development, educational attainment and life outcomes. People come with a wide range of issues including loss and bereavement, domestic abuse, anxiety and depression, trauma and self harming behaviour.

Our Invest in Youth project aims to transform the futures of young people aged between 15 & 24 who have issues in their lives that are getting in the way of them finding employment. We focus on participants with mental or physical health difficulties, who are homeless, have disabilities or may be full time carers.

Our Complex Leaving Care service developed a bespoke model that is able to meet the unique needs of each person leaving care. We offer a differentiated model of supported accommodation which includes safe, supportive and nurturing placements within a family environment as well as personalised floating support packages for young people that want to live independently.
