The technology also means you can now do a lot of things from the comfort of your home such as order a repeat prescription or cancel an appointment.

Referrals update

Please note from the 1st of February 2020 we will no longer be posting out referral paperwork for patients to action. If the Clinician has agreed to refer you on to further services you will need to collect your booking confirmation paperwork from our reception desk within 5 working days of your appointment.

If you have a mobile telephone number registered with us at the practice we will send out a text message informing you when it is ready to collect.


Please note from the 1st of April 2019 home visit requests will need to be booked before 12.30pm for urgent requests.

Any routine pre-booked visits can be added throughout the day but all on the day urgent requests must be requested before 12:30pm.

If an urgent visit is requested after this time it may be put for the next working day as per the GP Partners

RAF: A Guide to Our Services                How We Help Veterans





Rover60 Lunch Club –  Lunches must be pre-booked. The group meets on the last Thursday of each month in Blues Café at Ewood Park.
This group is for anyone who would like to have lunch with some company rather than alone or not bother at all- they may live alone or
need a bit of social company for whatever reason.  
Also there is a group of people which meets the last Friday of each month in Blues Café called Memories and Comrades.
This group is for people who have a connection with both dementia and the Military and is led by Admiral Nurses from the Royal British Legion.
On Thursday evenings a group called Sliding Doors meets from 6.30pm to 8.30pm in Blues Café – this is a social group for adults with disabilities and anyone who might feel isolated.

What is Care Navigation?

 “A person-centred approach that uses signposting and information to help primary care patients and their carers move through the health and social care system as smoothly as possible to ensure that unmet needs are met”

 To try to meet increasing demands on the NHS the Practice has chosen to participate in a  model of care known as care navigation to ensure that our patients are directed to the most appropriate service for their need.   To enable us to do this the reception team may ask you a few questions about the nature of your call.   The reception staff have all undertaken accredited training to ensure that they signpost patients to the correct service.

It is your choice to disclose this information and if you do not feel that you wish to discuss the nature of your call our receptionists will respect your decision.


Examinations and Sickness Certificates


It should be noted that GPs do not provide sick notes for schoolchildren. When children are absent from school owing to illness, schools may request a letter from a parent or guardian, and this is no different during the exam period. However, children who have missed exams due to illness are frequently told be schools that a note from a doctor is required; but this cannot be provided by a GP. Aside from the fact that parent/guardians are responsible for excusing their children from school, GPs cannot provide retrospective sickness certification. When a child suffers from a long-term condition, any certification will be provided by the responsible specialist.


GPC has sought and received confirmation from the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator that Awarding Organisations make no requirements for pupils to obtain a medical certificate in support of their application for special consideration. Students are asked for information in support of their application, but this may take the form of a statement by the school. The Joint Council for Qualifications has confirmed that as far as they are concerned, if a student was absent from an examination as a result of illness and has the support of the school or centre to be absent, special consideration will be granted on that basis. Awarding organisations do not insist that medical proof is provided.

Care Quality Commission (CQC) Inspection 5th April 2018


Darwen Healthlink is registered with the CQC which is the independent regulator of health and social care in England.  As part of our registration we are periodically inspected to ensure that our service comply with the regulations set by the CQC.  The main areas of investigation are around whether the practice is safe, effective, caring, well led and responsive to patient needs.  We are very pleased to report that following the recent visit we were rated good overall.  The full report can be seen below.

At Darwen Healthlink we believe in being fair and transparent.  We aim to get things right for you first time, every time.  In the unfortunate event that this doesn't happen we will put it right as soon as possible and talk to you about it.

If you have any concerns about your care then please speak to a member of staff who will be happy to help you. 


Here at Darwen Healthlink we strive to get things right first time but we appreciate that this does not always happen.  If you need to raise a complaint or speak with the Practice Manager, then please ask a receptionist or pick up a leaflet on the reception desk.

Darwen Healthlink Questionnaire 2016

The Practice gave out 50 questionnaires to random patients.  Out of these 43 were returned and 1 was partially completed.  The questions were around access to the surgery, availability of appointments, waiting times and the overall experience at your Practice.  The main questions asked have now been collated and are available to view using the link below.

GP Patient Survey 2019

The GP Patient Survey is an independent survey run by Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England. The survey is sent out to over a million people across the UK. The results show how people feel about their GP practice.  Darwen Healthlink had 309 questionnaires sent out with 112 returned for analysis.  The results of this can be seen below by clicking the link.


Friends & Family Feedback Forms

The NHS Friends and Family Test (FFT) was created to help service providers and commissioners understand whether their patients are happy with the service provided, or where improvements are needed. Engagement Event February 2018

Darwen Healthlink invited in patients who access our services to take part in an Engagement Event.  This was to enable us all to examine and discuss the service that we provide for your NHS.
